Exploring Home Options at Our Community Dinner

April 4, 2024 - Our Third Annual Community Dinner was a wonderful evening of fellowship and "strategery" - with over 50 All In members from across the valley in attendance! We kicked off with a delicious meal catered by Pops.

After dinner, Rachel walked us through a slideshow detailing a variety of affordable home options, including:

  • Tiny Homes
  • Pre-Fab Housing
  • Mixed Income Housing
  • Milford Redevelopment & Housing Partnership (MRHP)
  • Manufactured Homes
  • Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs)
  • Congregate / Boarding Houses
  • Permanent Supporting Housing
  • Crisis Housing
  • Tiny Homes on Wheels
  • Cooperative Housing (Co-Ops)
  • Repurposed Homes (i.e. Containers)
  • Homeshares

Next, Alex from the Naugatuck Valley Project (NVP) presented a case study on the Brookside Cooperative Housing complex in Waterbury. NVP is one of the originators of Brookside and is also one of All In's partner agencies. Nadine shared about the tour of Brookside she participated in last month with other All In members and Tom shared about how the Co-Op model has already been used in Milford. A productive Q&A session followed.

Working together in small groups, we considered the cooperative housing model and examined the other home options. We wrapped up with each group presenting a summary of their deliberations and how they voted on which home options we wanted to learn more about in future gatherings.

We closed the evening with a half-hour of one-to-one time where we built new and strengthened existing relationships with each other. We even got to celebrate Alex's birthday - indeed, this gathering was an evening to remember!
